Paraguay Visas for Australian Motorcyclists
Here is a summary of an email conversation I have had with the Paraguay Embassy in Canberra.
If you are an Australian passport holder? If so, you do need a visa to enter Paraguay. You can obtain a VISA ON ARRIVAL if you are entering Paraguay via the main international airport SILVIO PETTIROSSI in Asunción. The fee is USD135 for Australians, paid in USD by cash only. You do not need to show proof of pre-booked onward travel to obtain your visa, just your passport (valid for at least 6 moths), and pay the visa fee. You will be granted a multiple entry 90-day stay. The SILVIO PETTIROSSI airport in Asunción is the ONLY port of entry into Paraguay that offers the visa on arrival facility for Australians. If you are planning on entering Paraguay by land, water or through any other airport, you MUST obtain a visa before you travel. You can find all this information on our website by opening this link: Embassy of Paraguay in Australia If you decide to apply for your visa though our Embassy, please note that you can pay for it by sending the USD in cash by Registered post together with all the required documentation. Or in person by coming to the Embassy. If you choose to send the cash, please ensure the USD notes are not older than 2006, this can be seen next to the face that appears on one side of the USD notes. Please ensure all your motorcycle documentation is in order to enter and exit Paraguay, and have a valid third party insurance. Otherwise, yes, you could also apply in Santiago or Buenos Aires. I suggest you contact the Paraguayan Embassy in Buenos Aires and Santiago directly, to make enquiries regarding how to go about applying for your visas from there. Their contact details are as follows: Paraguayan Embassy in Buenos Aires Address: Av. Las Heras 2545 - CP 1425 Email: argentinaembaparsc@mre.gov.py Tel 1: +(54 11) 4802 - 3826 / 3432 Tel 2: +(54 11) 4804 - 0437 Tel 3: +(54 11) 4801 - 0657 (Private Secretariat) Fax: +(54 11) 4807 - 7600 Opening hours: Mondays to Fridays 09:00am to 16:00pm Web site: Embajada del Paraguay Paraguay also has consulates in the following Argentinian cities: Buenos Aires Clorinda Cordoba Corrientes Formosa Posadas Puerto Iguazu Resistencia Rosario San Justo For more information on our Embassy in Santiago, Chile, please visit their website embajadadelparaguay.cl The cost of a tourist visa for Australians applying via any Paraguayan consulate or embassy is USD135 (the same as the cost of the VISA ON ARRIVAL). I suggest you double check with the embassy or consulate nearer to you about their visa processing times. Please be aware that once the visa has been issued, it has a validity of 6 months, that is, applicants have a period of 6 months to enter Paraguay. Upon arrival in Paraguay, you will be granted a multiple entry, 90-day stay. I hope the above information is of help and please do not hesitate to contact us again should you require further advice. Similar hassles visiting Brazil except for Australians the cost is only about $30 so in terms of square kilometres per dollar, Paraguay didn't seem worth the trouble compared to Brazil. We are giving it a miss.
Check first if you intend getting a visa at a consulate because not all can issue it. |
