Partner for ruta 40 ( Argentina ) North to South in may 2014
Hi! I am heading the ripio and the Ruta 40 within a week (10th of May). Is there anyone there willing to share the risk and ride together with me? I am pretty conservative about off-road: no speedy, no crazy rides.
I am from Spain and ride a Brazilian BMW (sim, falo portugês também!) Thks |

There is very little ripio left on ruta 40. A few sections in Sta Cruz province, yes. Ruta 40 signs have been moved all around by the Argentine government, so what we have today for "Ruta 40" is partly faked, una estafa. Some of what used to be the "true" Ruta 40 has been re-signed and new paved parallel routes have been substituted. It is no longer an adventure the way it used to be. Why are you going in May? That is the beginning of winter here. Parts of the pavement may be frozen, escarchada. There are already warnings from Vialidad Nacional about frozen road surface conditions. And when things are not frozen, some of the unpaved sections can be muddy. Bajo Caracoles to Las Horquetas is still ripio and much of that area is "en obras." Then it's paved south of that to near lago Cardiel. Then it's ripio until Tres Lagos. From Tres Lagos you have pavement all the way to Río Gallegos. Or you can take the section from Río Turbio on the old Ruta 40 trace and there is still some ripio and mud until you get to the intersection with Ruta 3 near Río Gallegos. It's just not an adventure anymore. Bona sort, |
