Patagonia, Argentina and South America fuel costs

Hi, Im shipping my bike over to B.A. in March and am planning on heading down to Patagonia and then riding up to Alaska as part of a ride for charity..any ideas on the climate at this time of year in patagonia. Also any advice on fuel costs and costs of living across South America would be greatly appreciated.

Blessings

Fuel is cheaper in Argentina so most people ride down that way and cross into Chile only when they need to.

Cant remember the fuel prices, but they are ok.

As I said in my PM, today the 8th Feb 2009 fuel prices in Argentina went up by 30% as part of the gov. attempt to stop inflation but I suspect that down in the cone fuel will still be cheaper. Check the internet for actual fuel prices. Ride safe.:funmeterno:

I am in Ushuaia now and arive i few days ago the wether is fine here and warm. but in patagonia it is whery windy at some times at day but not that cold until you get to tdf.
Abaut price i probely depents how you live if you camp and how many national parks and turist atractions you visit, those can be quite ekspensive.
have a nice trip

We found Argentina expensive compared to all the expired information we received. Hotels/ motels in the crappiest dusty towns were 140 pesos, and food prices are comparetive with Australia but with better value for money. So western prices really. Fuel was also expensive when you consider that it didn't at all go down when oil hit rock bottom at under 40US. It's subsidised in Patagonia though starting in El Bolson along Routa 40. The most we paid in Argentina was 3.669 somewhere in the middle of nowhere between Bariloche and BA and the least was 2.13 in southern Patagonia but typically close to 3.
In Chile the most expensive was 769 in Cochrane and cheapest 455 in Santiago but typically aroudnd the 600 mark.

If you're lucky you may not have heavy winds, and it's a blast to ride than if you're comfortable on the dirt.

Chile is similar to Argentina and Bolivia is cheaper. But fuel is still western prices in either places. Same for Peru.

Ecuador

Gas in Ecuador is about US$1.50 per US gallon (little less than 4 litres). Premium is 2.00. A decent hotel room can be found for US$10-15.
