Patagonia/Bolivia/etc...
Am hoping to travel from Cusco to Buenos Aires then onto Patagonia. Leaving around midFeb. If anyone is around, drop me a line!
Til then, Simon |
Hi Simon,
Good luck on your trip. The only reason to reply is to put your attention on Frank´s colaboration under "Road Safety". Roads in Bolivia are blocked since mid-January and I wouldn´t enter yet, ESPECIALLY on the main roads. Keep yourself updated through the "safety" forum or any Bolivian newspaper such as "www.eldeber.com.bo" Happy rides, Tim [This message has been edited by Timido (edited 20 January 2003).] |
Sleish -
I'm currently in Arequipa with a German couple, and we're headed to Cuzco in a few days after Colca Canyon. We might be in Cuzco through about Feb 5 (more or less), then heading down through Bolivia to Chile, down to Ushaia. Drop me an email when you get to Cuzco. |
Hi Simon
I am arriving in Buenos Aires around the 20th of March. I want to head south to patagonia and from there I`ll go wherever the roads will take me. Still looking for somebody to travel with...(riding a KTM LC4) Claas |

Actually, I'm traveling with Anke Becker and Ulf Werner. We just crossed into Bolivia this afternoon... and can now say something about the road conditions. The good news is that the blockades seem to be over. The bad news is that apparently the police and the military had some kind of street battle this afternoon, the president appeared on TV with 3 generals and appealed for calm, and then the TV went off the air. We're in Copacabana near Puno, so we're going to wait until tomorrow and see what happens here...

Bolivia is not safe in La Paz and Cochabamba at the moment. Disturbances, looting and gun-fight have been going on in these cities on wednesday 12-2 and it might spread to other cities too, so PLEASE keep yourself updated through local radios and or TV. Tim |
Just on the news on BBC.

I will be arriving in BA on April 1. Planning to head North to Brazil immediately, but going to Tierra del Fuego would be cool. Iff you're in BA at same time, maybe we could hook up.

I am in Buenos Aires right now. hopefully I can pick up my moto in the harbour tomorrow. I live with friends here and will most likely start for tierra del fuego within the next two weeks. But I am not in a hurry and could wait for you, if you want to head south as well. Just send me a mail

hi timeless and others
a polite suggestion: if you're wanting to head south to TdF now, then i suggest you should be in a BIG hurry. it will be very cold there now and if you wait any longer, you won't make it through the snow. the 'window' for ushuaia and other (superb) south patagonian destinations is december to february! there is some flexibility before and after these months, but not much. rgds ChrisB |
Timeless- I tried to reply to your email twice, but it didn't go through. I need to catch up to my friends who are waiting in Brazil ASAP, so i can't go to TdF. You are welcome to join me heading north into Brazil, though.

hi jim
thanks for your offer. but i think i will head south to ushuaia. next january, february i want to be in africa or australia. so now is probably my last chance to go to tierra del fuego. maybe we can meet later, somwhere in south-am. since i will be heading north after tierra del fuego. good luck and fun on your travel. claas hi chris thanks for your suggestion. will it start snowing soon, or is it already snowing and freezing in tierra del fuego? do you think I can make it down there within about 10 days (driving all day) and still have good enough weather there? claas |
I am in Rio Gallegos now. It's not very cold and the only snow I saw was a few weeks ago further west in Chile. The best thing is that there's almost no wind. It seems as if it's only windy when the sun shines and that's much more unpleasant than chily air. The seasons are changing for sure but it is still relatively mild. TdF is similar to here. Go for it.
