peru is a useless country....
so, after riding down to peru from new york city, had bike problems crossing the ecuador-peru border hitchhiked to lima (witht the bike, mind you) spent a total of 2 weeks out of comission before finding out that because of peruvian importation beurocracy, it was going to take another month just to get the [arts i needed. Put the bike in a crate, and the only company that would ship it to new york wanted $4,000 to fly it or $2000 by boat. i know everyone say cuzco is nice, but the northern half of the country can sink into the ocean for all i care.....

So, what did you do in the end? Don't give up on getting parts - I got plenty sent from the US to Peru (via the post office!!) and it didn't take a month. What about a courier? Be creative on the customs declaration and you needn't pay much duty. Peru is awesome - there's much more than just Cusco (or Lima)...

Really ???? I've been here for about a year now & I love the place.
No problems getting parts, I order stuff from the UK & get it posted to me. Usually arrives within a week. No hassles with customs or officials at the borders with Chile, Equador, Brasil & Bolivia. I looked into the price of sending my bike back to England from Lima, US $550 by sea or US $1100 by air. Sounds like you've had a run of bad luck - did you pee on Buddah's grave in a past life ? ;-) Happy to help if I can (I'm in Arequipa), drop me an email. ------------------ Last seen in S.America, missing presumed fed. http://www.smellybiker.com |
