Road blocks in Bolivia

Other than asking at our hotels etc.. is there any good info on road blocks/protests in Bolivia?

We encountered two yesterday on the way (north) to Tupiza.

Rock up to the front. chat to a few people, smile nicely and as a rule they will let you through and carry on.

They don't have an issue with tourists, just what ever they are protesting about (usually fuel prices).

Roadblocks in Bolivia can be unpredictable as far as where they will spring up. Last one I encountered on the highway was in Villamontes almost a year ago. I was able to bypass it over the pedestrian walkway beside the bridge.

There have been incidents of ambush roadblocks on the road to Brazil, but most other roads are very safe in my experience.

Even on the protest roadblocks you should be cautious. Depending on the who's and the why's they could be potentially violent.
