road bolivia

hi
i m looking for some information on bolivia border
i want to cross from chile to bolivia (coming from the route 27) to the national reserve eduardo alvaroa and near the "laguna verde" - green lagoon, and then to the "laguna colorada"
my question is:
the route is ok, im driving a bmw 1200 gsa ? is possible to drive or very complicated? is sandy?
thank´s
luis

Long story short, hardest riding I've ever done. Google "ruta lagunas Bolivia". Sandy would be an understatement, it's nothing but sand and it's chopped up to hell by the 100s of tour 4x4s that pass through. I wouldn't recommend it on a 1200. I did it on a 150 and dropped at least 15 times.

it will be difficult because it is partly very sandy. But it is worth it! Just take your time and try to find a buddy riding with you.

Especially around laguna colorada and afterwards on the west side route there are very sandy parts.

ask the park authorities which route around etc is the best. they have been very helpful.

i did it with two persons on a Bmw r1150 adv...so you will make it as well ;)

2up on an 1150 through that stuff! Big respect to you! As you say, it is worth it aswel, some of the scenery is unbelievable. I should probably add that I'm only a little guy and my riding skill is so so.

That route is hard, I have done it in July 2018 in a 125cc city bike alone, it´s hard specially in this time (winter) you reach close to 5200m and -15 degres, some part really sandy, I fell 2 or 3 times and I took 3 days to pass till Uyuny.
Here you have the pictures of the road...

I did the two alternative routes to this:

Thru Argentina: From San pedro Atacama - on paved roads 52 east, 9 North into Bolivia ,14 North and 21 west) Longer but Almost all paved and gorgeous geography) You can do this one even on a street bike.

Thru Ollague: - Rode directly out of the Salarde uyuni to Ollague on the desert floor. Some sand but not insane. Amazing overlanding experience IMO. Very memorable.

Both of these were well worth it and I did it two-up on a Vstrom.

The lagunas route I was going to do but every single person I met told me not to attempt it two-up.

Next time :)
