route to peru/ecuador border
 

Hi

Currently in Trujillo and just wondering what route to take . I intend to cross the
Peru/Ecuador border at LaBalsa.

Should I go through Cajamara
or take the coastal route through Chiclayo.

Grateful for any suggestions. Time is not an issue.

Some of the best riding we had was between cajamarca and Chachapoyas. Roads were mostly in good condition with some gravel. Often very narrow with poor visibility around some corners, but not much traffic. The Ecuador side was pretty muddy for a while.

5 minutes on 1N is 5 minutes wasted, so head inland and enjoy the scenery

If it is wet the road north of La Balsa will be fairly exciting and even when you do reach the new concrete road, it may not be any easier.
