Selling bike in Chile
Hello,
The age old question...how to sell the bike in Chile. I have read the various threads here, but none quite fit my situation, so I'll describe the details here, and if anyone has advice, I'd be very grateful for it. Canadian registered KLR650. Want to sell it to a foreign traveler, considering doing the exchange in Punta Arenas. I lost my plate (on that last gravel bit coming to Ushuaia) so I guess he'll need to re-register in Chile to get a plate. I see other foreigners seem to have succeeded in registering in Chile when buying a bike from a Chilean, so is it possible if you buy a bike previously registered to a foreigner? Many thanks |
To register the bike in chile you would have to pay importtax etc. Get another plate and:

Hey Tobi (ta-rider),
i've just been reading both your links....the one to the 'between borders' and the one to the tent'. i like both, but like more info on the transfering of a bike please cos that other tread doesn't really go in much detail. i guess 'in between' borders would get the 'temp import papers' situation solved by the seller having exported his bike and the buyer importing the bike. however, that still wouldn't legally transfer title papers etc to the new owner would it? i mean, the buyer would still have to import a bike that legally is on the papers of the seller love to hear more, regards, Arne |

I'm also particularly interested in how to transfer a north american title while in either Chile/Argentina or between.
Anyone have any experience with that, insurance issues? |
