Selling Chilean plated Bike outside of Chile?
Hi all,
Something I`ve been wondering about is the possibility / ease of selling a Chilean plated bike outside of Chile? I am supposed to head south but sometimes I fancy just keep on going north, say until Colombia. Would it be easy enough to sell it to say another foreigner, who could then travel south and sell it - legally - in Chile? Would this just be a matter of going to padron in county of sale and then that would be enough for them to transfer bike in order to sell it in Chile? Anyone done similar? Cheers! Rtw |
Selling chilean plated bike
I´ve also run into a similar situation. I´ve ended up in colombia with my chilean plated bike and I´m not sure if I have to turn around or if I can sell my bike. How did things work out for you? Did you turn around or keep going?

I would say, with a poder from a notaria anybody can travel all over south america and maybe even enter Chile. The new owner (or anybody else) will not be able to ever register the bike or sell it again.
Both, buyer and seller (the legal owner, name in the "padron") must be in Chile to legaly sell the bike (in a notaria). saludos, Groschi |
Supposedly chile-reg vehicles that have been out of Chile for more than 6 months will be stopped at the border. Something to do with taxes needing to be paid and perhaps an easy fix if the original owner is there, but who knows if someone without any standing in Chile rocks up with a poder.
There are also problems at at least two borders between Chile and Peru where all of the purchase formalities have not been fully completed and the new owner is using a poder from the previous owner. Peru is refusing entry, but how that relates to the proposal by the OP is unknown. |
