Clearance costs of $700 to leave the country? Crazy. Many have warned about shipping into Brazil, but didn't know it's hard to leave as well.
If you can't track down a reasonable or timely quote, you may want to consider Buenos Aires if you are ok with a quick ride down. Dakar Motors can arrange it all for you, couple grand roughly to North America. |
Brazilian bureacracy
Last week in Guyana I met three Brazilian's traveling in a Mitsubishi 4x4. On a previous trip they drove to the USA and shipped the car back from Texas to Brazil. "Never again!" they said about shipping into Brazil and they're Brazilian.
Next time, Montevideo they said. |
I've heard from other bikers and locals that Brazil is a nightmare when it comes to shipping in and out of the country.
Definitely worth contacting Sandra at Dakar Motos in Buenos Aires, she can sort it for you ! Much easier and at least you've got more of a chance of seeing it again. Louise "normal is a failure of potential" |
Hi,
I live in Brasil. I DO AGREE with JediMaster.doh Aduana in Brasil is a nightmare. Think twice: or Buenos Aires or Uruguay (or even Katmandu). :mchappy: Hu(bb)gs! |
Points all well taken.
I've abandoned my bid to ship out of Brazil. Am going BA to LAX. It's a wonder how this country progresses with such a byzantine and regressive Customs regime. Never ship in and Never ship out! Neighboring countries in South America are much more reasonable. P. |
Dakar Motos in BA are the way to go. A friend of mine needed to go from Santiago. The low offer was twice the US$ 1850 for a BMW GS that Dakar estimated. Dave
