Shipping Bike From Miami to Bogota, Colombia
Hey Guys,
Hope you are all enjoying your bike journey thought the awesome countries of S.A. I have a dream and will soon be living it by the end of this year!!! I will travel to S.A.but can not leave work 'til Nov. and therefore I would like to ship my bike to Colombia so that I can make it to Usuaia by Dec 25, 2008. On my way back I will then enjoy all the wonders of the rest of the continent. If someone can please give me information on shipping my bike from Miami, FL to Bogota or Cartagena I would greatly appreciate it (price, time frame, preparation, other port of departure/arrival) . By plane would be my first choice, but I'm open to all possibilities. Thank you in advance for any info. and ride safe! Greg |
Hi Greg,
Don't know exactly but one suggestions is contact the Bogota office of Girag airlines. They don't fly to Miami but there is an airline located right beside them in their second floor office that does and supposedly takes cargo. No idea on price or frequency as this was just an offhand comment that they made during conversation. There should be others as well. For a starting point on cost, the price from Colombia to Panama as of June this year was $800 and from a previous post you can see that as of July the price for Panama to Colombia is $900. Hope that helps, cheers. |

shipping to Colombia
Hi I shipped my BMW 1200 adventure 2007 from Medellin Colombia to Miami on the 2 of July. It was not crated and I paid $1270 and then $30 paperwork fee in Miami. I used Centurian and they got it done but had a few problems. They shrink wrapped the bike like a christmas turkey on the center stand and then had no way to tie it down or lift it. They ended up putting it on a big aluminum skid plate that would have cost like 4 times as much as I was paying. The guy in charge down there said he would eat the extra freight because they had screwed it up. I was worried about damage from them using a fork lift to load it but I still do not know how they got it on the plate. Had a few problems beside that as customs paperwork did not get done and I had to spend 3 extra days as the weekend customs is closed and Monday was a holiday there. They had told me to just bring the bike out at 3Pm on Sat. afternoon for the 11 flight at night. Took me from 9 in the morning till 5 at night doing paperwork with them and a freight forwarder. There charge was only like $100 for a days worth of work. That was included in my total charge of $1270.

Any Miami to Bogota updates/fresh new reliable flights or shippers
Anyone had recent successful dealings with transport from Miami to Bogota? We can either fly motorbikes (2) air cargo (first choice) or ship by boat (last choice).
|
Shipping by plane is going to be really expensive. Air freight is far and away the most costly way to ship a vehicle. Take a look at the information here on the A-1 Auto Transport page for shipping a bike to Bogota. It's no safer to have it flown than it is to have it delivered by boat. The only downside is that it may take a little bit longer, in which case you'll have to decide if the cost of air shipping is worth it.
