Shipping to Brazil but what about temporary import doc or carnet???
I’m here in Africa after a trip down through from Europe and want to get bike (UK reg) shipped to Brazil and want to spend about 8months or more in Brazil.
Does anybody know anything about getting a temporary import certificate? Cost and how long you can keep your bike in Brazil with this? Maybe a Carnet is a better way to go? But again how long can you keep your bike in Brazil on a Carnet (South Africa is 6months for example). Might be easier to renegotiate my Africa based Carnet for an annual South America one, I’m sure it’s cheaper! Or maybe it is better to ship to Argentina and sort out things out going through a land border? I’ve had experience with the Brazilian cops before in the area I plan to spend some time, they wanted dashing because another guy and I had no ID creating a problem, we didn’t pay but it shows they are looking for bribes and I’d be an easy target seeing the same cops all the time rather than passing through… Any help and info welcome, cheers! You do not need a carnet for any country in South America. Brazil issues Temp Vehicle Import Permits (TVIP) of 90 or 180 days.
Argentina has 8 months. Uruguay has 12 months. |
Save yourself some headach and ship to either Argentina or Uruguay!doh

Cheers for the info guys, been reading between the lines on posts that Brazil can be more difficult to import too but can anybody tell me why? Any idea of the cost of a 180day Temp Vehicle Import Permit and timescales involved? Oh, and can you get a Temp Vehicle Import Permit at major land borders if I ship to a different country.
Anyways, looks like I’ll ship to UK first then South America early next year, I want to meet the bike on arrival and not have it stored for a month or two…just looking into a quote now to get her back to UK. Thanks! |
