Suggestions on leather jacket/boots in Mexico?
I'm looking to have a good pair of riding boots and a jacket made when I get to Mexico, but I'm not sure where the best place to do that would be. There are cows everywhere, but that doesn't mean there are any skilled leather workers. There's got to be someplace in Mexico famous for their leatherworking. I've seen plenty of leather saddles and chaps and cowboy boots, but whenever I ask, they never know the guy that made it. Plus, I'm about a foot or two taller than the average mexican, so finding boots or a jacket in my size is next to impossible.
Any suggestions? |
Leon is known for it leather! in central Mexico.?c?

Naolinco in Veracruz is well known. However, only the boots are made locally with most of the shoes, belts, jackets, gloves, etc... brought in from Guanajuato (Leon as mentioned above). Depends on what you are looking for.
Prices are dirt cheap. There was a sale a couple of months ago at one locale with a pair of men's deck shoes (soft leather) and two mens belts for about $15 dollars US. If you are coming here, send me a PM and let me know and I will be happy to ride with you and show you the way there, it is one of my favorite rides that I always need some excuse to skip work and head off on. |
I'm going to be spending a couple weeks in Puerto Vallarta, in December, so Leon will probably be a good place to look, since I can get there in a good days riding.
