Temp Import Brazil Air/Sea ?
 

Hello peeps

After 5 years pottering around Europe & Africa I'm finally looking to ship my bike to Brazil from South Africa.

Has anyone done a temp import via an air or sea port in Brazil?

Just wondering if there are any major pitfalls to beware of or if you know of any great time savers.

I'm probably going to do it by air into Sao Paulo.

I would advise you to choose any other country in South America than Brazil. Arriving by air is not as bad as a seaport but still a bureaucratical nightmare. Chile would be about the best option, otherwise Argentina, also regarding the fact you are arriving from South Africa.

Not by my own experience ( I have only seafreighted my bike and cars), but you can surely find it on the hubb. But it defenitely is lots easier than Brazil!

I've been searching around the HUBB and the rest of the web, but still not found anything concrete about the proceedure for temp import to Buenos Airies yet, air or sea.

Have you seen anything?

Buenos Aires aiport is easy.
they import bikes all the time. i´m suprised you didn´t find more info on the hubb.

I Shipped mine over 2 years ago so some things may have changed but i doubt it.
Dakar motos can help you if you need assistance, for example with spanish or paperwork. i had basic spanish and had no problems, every one was helpful, and it took about 6 or 7 hours including rebuilding the bike out of the crate.

Just need your documents and airway bill. and ask for a temporary import document. they told me a carnet was needed, but this isn´t the case, so eventually they just gave me the temp import as they should. more paper work i suppose. i think Sandra told me this happeded a lot.

no fees for that.
$50 dollars for the cargo company for paperwork ( not always charged depending on the airline) and $50 for overnight warehouse charges. and that was that.

i believe chile is as efficient, if not more so.

the only problem now might be with insurance. it is now compulsary in chile and argentina, but i don´t know if you need to show this on entry.
