Temp Import Proceedure & Duration Argentina
Hello All,
I'm sure this has been answered over many threads before but wondered if someone could give a quick 101 to temporary importing my motorcycle into Argentina? I'm thinking about heading over for 3 weeks riding in March and intend on either using my own bike registered in my name or borrowing a friends. Would someone be able to advise on whats needed for both situations and also how long I can expect it to take to get the bike out of customs? Thanks in advance. R |
Borrowing a bike introduces major complications because the names on all the paperwork won't match. That can be sorted by having a power pf attorney but then it would have to be translated and verified etc etc so overall is not a good option

I am pleased to help, but need to know how you are importing your
bike into Argentina. Air? Sea? Or, riding it in? I assume since you are posting from the UK you will not be riding it into Argentina. By Air would be better than by sea - and Javier at dakar Motors has helped hundreds of Hubbers to clear their bikes from airport customs. There will be fees if you import by air or sea. There is no fee if you ride your bike into Argentina. By Sea, is tricky, but can be done - but usually costs more time and money. There is a thread dedicated to shipping to Buenos Aires that I suggest you read. If you are a citizen of the UK and your bike is legally registered in UK, and you have title, plates etc you will be issued a three month temporary import permit unless you state your case for needing up to eight months. Remember insurance is mandatory in Argentina, and you must have a valid motorcycle license issued from UK or other EU plus an international drivers permit - usually easily procured from your in country motor club. You can purchase insurance locally. Once on the road, your passport might be checked, but only if you are involved in an accident or being issued a traffic violation will your license and insurance be carefully checked. You will be spending a lot of money to fly your bike to Argentina for a three week tour. are you already in South America? Did I miss something? xfiltrate |
