Those heading to Ushuaia

In Argentina we are having some serious fuel/petrol supplies issues. The newspapers, etc say that this is going to take some days.

Manolito

fuel and route/ urgent

hoi Manolito,

we are in Ushuaia for the moment and will leave tomorrow;
How is the situation with the fuel for the moment? On our way to U. we had no big problems, except that we have to wait sometimes quite long.

Next question: on our way back we want to go to Porvenier/ Punta Arenas . Is it possible for a GS 1150 and F 650 (medium loaded) to take the roude B8 (pampa guanaco, Cameron, Onaisin, Porvenir)

Do you have any suggestions to put our tent in near Rio Grande?

hope you can give us some advises, thanks!

Manolito 20 Feb 2012 16:34

Hello. The situation is the same, you just have to wait. If you want I can go with you:thumbup1:.
I've used the road from Cerro Sombrero to San Sebastian, but I've never used the one you mentioned, and I don't know if there is a ferry either. But if it is in the same condition that the one I mentioned, you can do it.

The Chilean ripio on TdF is all pretty good, apart from the road the big trucks use between Cerro Sombrero and San Sebastian which has some bad corrugations in places. I rode the direct route from San Sebastian to Porvenir along the side of Bahia Inutil last week and it was in really good condition.

Don't go to Camping Club Nautico. It's closed, but you can still let yourself in. There are no baños or agua. Send me a PM and I'll give you an address and directions to a friend who'll let you stop at her place for a night. May see you in Pta Arenas (Paraguaya 150) as I'm waiting for tyres.

Suerte, Mick bier

Thanks for the info Manolito. I'm in Puerto Madryn intending to head south over the next couple of days. How is the fuel situation now? Please can you let us all know if the situation changes?

Thanks,
Duncan.

It keeps being the same, and I think it's going to take too long 'cause there are some political issues.

Hi, we are travelling from Santiago to ushuaia and then north. We left ushuaia last week and the situation for us was:

Ushuaia: no problems (one week ago)
Tolhuin: no problems (one week ago)
Rio grande: no problems (one week ago)
San Sebastián: no gasoline (6 days ago)
Cerro sombrero (Chile): no problems (6 days ago)
Rio gallegos: no gasoline (5 days ago)
El calafate: no problems but the people said that the gas will be cero in a few days (4 days ago)
Tres lagos: no gasoline (4 days ago)
Gobernador gregores: no problems (2 days ago)
Perito Moreno: no problems (1 day ago)

In the entire chilean carretera austral: NO GASOLINE!!!

We are traped in Chile Chico, we were ride the carretera austral before continue north but we will go back to argentina.

I hope this can be helpfull. Cheers!!!

dunch 24 Feb 2012 20:14

Same problem in the north of Patagonia folks. Came across RN25 in the last couple of days and the only place between Gaiman and Tecka with petrol (diesel seems to be available everywhere) was Los Altares, even then we had to wait for the tanker to turn up in the middle of the night.
Still, I'm having a much easier time than the two Brazillian lads I met there on Fireblades, they said they only got 200km to a full tank.

dunch 25 Feb 2012 13:32

Hi Folks,
How is everyone getting along? Is anyone still stuck?

Duncan.

Manolito 25 Feb 2012 15:23

In Rio Gallegos it's still the same. doh

dunch 25 Feb 2012 16:05

Best of luck to everyone stuck in Rio Gallegos. I'm going to head north and hope the fuel situation is better.
It's a shame we're going to miss that beer Manolito. Maybe next time hey?

Duncan.

Manolito 25 Feb 2012 16:35

Go north, it's too cold here :censored: and few days ago it was snowing in Ushuaia (during summer :confused1:).

PS: I owe you a beer bier

Manolito 1 Mar 2012 20:33

It looks like it's solved.

dunch 1 Mar 2012 22:21

Best of luck to all those now heading north. May the queues be short and the weather pleasant.

snohobo 3 Mar 2012 14:35

There was gas in Estancia Tapi Aike yesterday...

Delbert 4 Mar 2012 14:36

Blimey - I must have been lucky. I went down from Bariloche via Gallegos a few weeks ago and no fuel problems. I am amazed a big place like Rio G was totally our of fuel.

Interested to hear no fuel on Car Austral. My front damper is shot so i decided to take the ferry up to Pt Montt - sounds like a good decision!.

I am heading to Santiago and then trying to plan route north from there - looks a challenge to know which route to take!

good luck to all.

dunch 11 Mar 2012 18:17

Hey folks, how's the fuel situation down south? I was speaking to a guy yesterday who will be heading to Ushaia in a few days and I said I'd ask around about fuel.

Thanks,
Duncan.

Manolito 11 Mar 2012 19:39

Problem solved

Manolito 14 Mar 2012 00:53

The R40 is closed. Due to heavy rains the section from "Tres Lagos" to "Gobernador Gregores" is closed for a few days.

troyfromtexas 23 Mar 2012 19:04

Thanks to all that posted. I was traveling south 3 weeks ago, saw the posts and averted the problems by taking the ferry from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales. Then proceeded from Natales>Arenas>ferry>Provenir>San Sebastion>Rio Grande>Ushuaia. No problems all the way.

Now I'll be heading north since it appears that most of the problems seem to be resolved.

Cheers,

Troy

Guillaume 25 Mar 2012 00:13

In puerto madryn now. No issue finding gas all the way up.

Manolito 27 Mar 2012 05:20

There are no fuel issues right now:clap:

Barcelona Pat 8 Apr 2012 21:10

Yep - I´m in Comodoro Rivadavia at the moment, heading south, all good so far. Wind is - well - windy! But clear sunshine today - and CR seems to have its own little micro climate, as I´m wandering around in a t-shirt!

Manolito - thanks for your post on the other thread. Sounds pretty chilly with you. Any news on the snow in TdF?

I´ll probably stop in Pto San Julián area tomorrow (Monday 9th), and get into Rio Gallegos on Tuesday. If you are around, it would be great to meet up and buy you a beer

Cheers
Pat

Manolito 8 Apr 2012 23:37

Comodoro Rivadavia is always windy. Today we had windsof 80km/h. Just and advice, travel between 6am and 11am, because you are not going to have wind :thumbup1:
In Ushuaia was raining this days, but it stopped raining.

I'll be here on Tuesday

Manolito 8 Oct 2012 19:51

Those that are near Ushuaia, be very careful because it's snowing

Manolito 22 Nov 2012 01:28

Some friends told me that it was snowing a few minutes ago :freezing:

Rondelli 23 Nov 2012 19:39

So looks like the weather we have here at the moment will be the same when we get to Ushuia in a month then!! :freezing:

Manolito 24 Nov 2012 01:13

This week has been very cold and windy. Obviously, today was snowing in Ushuaia doh

Manolito 11 Dec 2012 16:39

Torres del Paine suffered 170 km/h winds (107 miles/h) and now they are expecting winds between 80 - 90 km/h
