Tires in Merida, Venezuela
Hi all
My tire isn´t going to make it to Manaus based on its current rate. I am leaving Bogota in a week, can I rely on getting a rear tire for my KLR in Merida? Or is it better to fit something here? I am not going to Caracas so that´s not an option. thanks Josh |
Hola,
i just arrived in Mèrida yesterday. I passed a KTM shop on the way in so i assume they have tyres. Also the police are riding a lot of new Yamaha XT 660 s so i assume there is a dealer for them to. I am in Hostel alemania and the boss says that it is easy to get parts in venezuela, and knows several mechanics etc in the area. at worst something can be sent from Caracas if needs be. If nobody has told you already - Make sure you buy plenty of dollars before you get in to the country and change plenty of local currency at the border. i got a far better rate for colomibain pesos at teh border than i am getting for dollars in town here. officially it is about 2000 bolivars to the dollar. in town the black market rate is 3000-3400 to the dollar. i could get 3600 at the border and in cucuta. and 1800 bols for 1000 colombian pesos! So if you bear that in mind and don´t like carrying lots of cash of borders (like me) especially when you hear of the reputation of the police here, it would probably be cheaper to buy tyres where you are before you get here. In colombia brasilian made pirelli´s are cheap no? may be see you when you get here. cheers mike |
thanks mate
I´m sure I´ll work something out. Probably give Venezuela a shot then but will ask for a price before I leave. Medellin was very cheap so I guess Bogota will work out the same. I´ll be there in approx 10 days if you are still |
rental too?
