TIVP in Colombia
Hello, Does anyone know how to leave a motorcycle for a long time in Colombia? It is possible to cancel or freeze the temporary permit, is it possible to pay a fine to customs or another solution? My intention is to leave it there a few months and then leave Towards Panama. Thanks

Hello, I have been there some months ago and you can leave the bike in colombia but after the time they give you, that normally it's 3 months, you will need to pay a fine per day, and at the time I think they spoke me something like 30USD a day...
What you need from South America that I can help you, feel free! Here is my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/voltaamericademoto/?hl=pt |
Thanks a lot

hey Pepino what did u do at the end? did you managed to extend the permit?
I am planning to do a similar thing but hate the prospect of dealing with stupid paperwork and senseless bureaucracy... cheers Cristhian |
I don't have current information but there was a business in or near Paraguachón, basically between the Colombian and Venezuelan borders. The idea is, you surrender the Colombian TVIP and store the bike in no man's land between countries. I heard there were different prices per day, depending on if you were storing the bike in cover or out in the open. This suggestion may not be valid at this time because importing any vehicle from into Colombia from Venezuela is currently prohibited (unless something changed.)
The other strategy is to find a 'bonded warehouse" that will suspend the TVIP. I don't have any tips or know of companies in Colombia that provide that service. I have read the daily fine for overstaying the TVIP in Colombia is costly. |
In 2015 xfiltrate posted the steps to extending your TVIP in Colombia without going to the border: https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hu...720#post512604
NOTE: xfiltrate has a medical reason that kept them from going to the border, and road blocks too. Not sure if that made a difference. |
Storage in Colombia
All depends what is Your plan for entry to Panama. If by boat (not container) nobody will ask You for papers when leaving Colombia.
You can ask @Motorrad Center Bogota(google it), Santiago speaks english and I'm sure he can help You |
There is also a parking space at the border with Ecuador where you can check your TVIP out and store the bike there.
look on iOverlander and youll find it. |
