For those people coming into Argentina at present, thier bank machines will only give pesos, the line ups at the machines and banks mon-fri start at 8am and go on till about 5pm. No bank would accept travelers cheques or exchange chilean pesos for argentinian pesos. Also no money exchange places or people on the streets, might be soon with the situation.

Was in Argentina for 2 weeks and the situation changes daily .

The banks were closed by the government for 2 days to stop people withdrawing their money , and upon reopening the govt announced it was illegal to buy foreign currency ! The money machines are still working but you may have to look around to find one that accepts your card .

Grab the Herald newspaper ( in English) for the latest information .

Exchange rates for dollars cash are therefore quite good at the moment :0)
