Tyres and brake pads in Ecuador/Colombia
 

I am going to be travelling through Ecuador, via Quito, into Colombia to Cali and Bogata in the next 10 days in could do with changing my front tyre and maybe even the brake pads on my V-Strom 650. Could anybody suggest any decent dealers, or would I be better hanging on until I am in Panama?

In Quenca, Ecuador there are a few shops that have decent stuff. In Panama I didnt see much.

There are lots of options in Colombia, Meddelin and Bogota.

If you look in the bottom of the forum, in the moto mehanics section, you can read about other peoples experiences with different shops.

If you can wait then wait for Meddelin and and get it there since the town is not too big and nice too. Otherwise cuenca has a few shops that have tires and pads.

You will find in Cali an Suzuki store and a good place for mechanic at ASTURIAS AV 6AN n 24AN-46

Tires and pads for the Vstrom in Quito should be no problem,shit I can even get you a bashplate and a Leo Vince can if you like!!!

Awesome, is it that easy for F650 GS's? 17" wheel and all. Brake pad would be handy round about there too. Are they stocked or have a delay with ordering it in?

both colombia and ecuador are very civilized and have a large number of rich people who like motorcycles.

Tires are very easy, but you won't get exactly what you want.

In colombia they coulden't find new brake pads for me, so they relined my old ones instead. Has worked perfectly from there to buenos aires and was about the same.

Re-lined brake pads? How the hell do they do that?

Are the prices inflated like they are in the former Soviet areas, or the same as in the West?

the take the old brake pad and scrape off the brake lining, then they glue another lining back on. The lining itself is pretty uniform I guess, but the piece of metal it is on is very different from bike to bike.

I woulden't do it on a highperformance racebike, but it should hold out fine for normal use.

I have had no problems.

About 40$ pr. set. In my experience.

There are a ton of 650,Gs,s here so I would imagine it,s not a problem,but you never know!!!I could always make a phone call,let me know!
