us to belize

Hi all, great site! loads of info.
I'm planning trip from u.s. border to belize and was wondering if anyone has any advice as far as routes, roads (preferrably trails, we want as much off road as possible), local customs, paperwork, etc.

It'll be myself and one other, and we're up for most anythings to offer.

thanks,
luke

Hi there,

I am a German, living and working in Belize. I am an enthuastic off roader too. Just came from the yucatan peninsula back to Belize. There are some possibilities to travel off road down the coast to Belize but I have no idea where all the trails go. Didn`t get a own bike here yet, cause there is no enduro market here. When you`re interested to leave your bike here and get yourself a new one, I would be interested to buy yours or your friends. Been here sind 10 weeks and can not ride in this weather, what a shame!!!
Let me hear, what you think

Thanx

bikertom,
we're coming down end of 2003 staying over new years. if there are trails we will find them. i think we will be riding xr650r's there. are bikes hard to find? we may be interested in selling, but we would have to make sure to have a way back. how is it there? much scuba diving? we plan to spend a week in belize. is there lots to do?

Hi Luke,

sorry couldnt answer earlier.
I am working here and was looking for a bike. Go to the states next week to get my xr650l. Fine when you come end of the year. Well its main season and not so hot. More eventuelly a little wet. Diving is good, got many locations here. Hangouts are better in Caye Caulker than Ambergis Caye (snob place).
Coast down the hummingbird "highway" is very scenic. Got loads of dirt road here. Only the main north south and east west connection are paved.
Might do some rides together then.

sound great tom!
i am looking forward to the journey. how long does it take you to drive to the states from belize? why are you going with the xr650l instead of the xr650r? it would be great if we could meet up for a ride while there.

toodles,
luke

Hey dude,

well it takes different times, depending on the route you`re going. If you come from Texas to Mex, thats a long way but unless shipped, the shortest. Just Mexico City to Cancun direct is around 600 miles. From Cancun to the border it takes 4 hours and then from the border city chetumal (mex side) justabout 3-4 hours to St. Ignacio also called Cayo.
I just bought the XRL for my convenience, need to have lights, horn, blinkers etc. to get a cert. of title here. And I think thats enough for me. Will do some changes (smoke thing off, uni filter...
Just let me know, when you have a question or so.

C ya
