Ushuaia for Christmas
My Wife and I are hoping to be in Ushuaia for Christmas and New year, any recomendations for camping or otherwise? Anything happening over the festive period?. I seem to remember an impromptu meeting taking place down there at that time? We're hoping to make the meeting in Viedema in December
It's the start of our trip North to Alaska www.ginoontour.blogspot.com |
I'll be 600km north from Ushuaia.
I recomend "La Posta Hostel", the owner is a friend of mine and he might lower de price. If there is something i can help with, just PM me :thumbup1: |
Welcome to stay with us if you come to Mexico City. It's a great place to visit so don't believe what people tell you.

And where in Ushuaia are we going to get roast Turkey and brussel sprouts, that what I want to know! :-)
Hope to make the meeting, and on South for Christmas. Merv. |
Camping Rio Pipo down beside the rugby club on the way out of town towards the national park, run by Reuben and his family. Excellent hot showers, bar, occasional asado (bbq) unmissable. Very friendly people. Just don't pitch tents right by the river - the temperature can be 2-3 degrees lower than up amongst the trees!
Ride safe, Simon. |
Merv, Ushaia then South for Christmas? Antartica? I'll be glad to give the sprouts a miss this year!!
Simon, thats the plan, looks like you found out about the temp difference from experience? :thumbup1: |
Lol!, I'd love to go south from Ushuaia, but not sure we can afford those cruises. Love to do one of them.
What I meant was we plan to go to the meeting just above Valdez in the first week of December, then head South to Ushuaia. With or Without the sprouts :-) |
with U$S 1000 you can be near Antartica but you have to invite me :innocent:
|
Manolito, took your advice and just contacted the la posta to see about a room for christmas and the week after but going to camp for new year, hopefully there will be a party at Rio pipobeer

The owner is a friend of mine and he owns a KLR 650, so you are going to have a fantastic time in Ushuaia jeiger |

TdF Class of 2012-2013
Greetings Travelers to the End of the World!
I am one of13 riders, just arrived in Cartagena, Columbia, from the San Blas Islands, Panama via the Stahlratte. An amazing time was had by all. Maybe half of us are planning to be in or around Ushuaia for Christmas/New Years. Gather extra wood and make room around the camp fire! Many stories to share and more friends to meet. |
Anyone need a break before hitting Santiago, Chile, pm me, or drop me an email at lc at lorrainechittock dot com. I'm two hours north of Santiago, one km off the PanAm over looking the ocean. Free camping if you like dogs, (and they like you!)

Just looked at the map and got nowhere else I wana be.:scooter: Will head down from the HU meeting, have my tent. |
If you ride through Ushaia to the extreme southwest end of town there is a campground called Lapatia. That is as far south as you can go on a MC. Most have there picture taken with the Lapatia sign in the background. If you look at the wooden cover for the sign around the top edge is the spot where Gregory Frazier carved his name in the wood. Last year I got there early and did not want to wait for Christmas. So I headed to Torres Del Paine in Chile. That was a Christmas I will never forget. So you know you have options. Dave
