Wanted: Colombian bike in Colombia - at least 250cc
Hi.
I'm going to be staying in Colombia for the next 5 months or so, and I'm looking for a bike to explore the country on. 500cc would probably be ideal, but open to anything larger or smaller down to 250cc. Anything that I can strap a bag on the back of and go really. If anybody has any ideas where I can get good second hand bikes from at a fair price, then I would be really intreated to hear ideas. Im in Medillin at the moment and haven't had much luck. Happy to travail for the right bike though. Budget isn't set in stone, so long as I feel I can sell it on for a similar price in 6 months time. However, anything above 2000USD will need some serious consideration. Am I being realistic with the budget? Thanks. Josh Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Anything bigger than 150/180 carries quite a price tag. You be looking at several thousand US even for a used DR650, KLR650, etc. It's possible that your best bet would be to buy from another foreigner but that comes with its own problems too. There are loads of moto dealerships in Medellin I'd go and have a look to get an idea of prices. FYI I got quoted on a brand new Honda XR150 about 2,500USD if memory serves me right.

A 250cc moto will be huge in Colombia. You will be able to keep up with traffic on the rural roads just fine, and easily pass trucks and slower traffic. Honda Tornado and many Chinese bikes also worth considering. You can go to the fun spots with a 250cc, whereas a bigger moto will be more a challenge, unless you have exceptional dirt road skills and past motocross experience. Ride something the locals ride, and parts are available at any small repair shop, including tires and a mechanic who has experience with your type of moto.
