Weather in Peru, Ecuador and Colombia
Hi folks,
Currently planning my next move from Mendoza, heading north. Been doing some weather research on line and it seems to be raining everywhere, every day, from Bolivia northwards except the coast. According to the annual weather charts, this seems a bit early for Peru and Colombia. So I'm guessing the weather patterns here are as screwed up as they are elsewhere. I was wondering if anyone out there has got some local knowledge of the forthcoming weather which may be more reliable to plan off. I was hoping to get up to Colombia at the end of Feb to enjoy at least one dry month before the rainy season starts, but it seems rainy seasons are arriving when they feel like it now!! And anyone good some good rain gear they want to flog me?!! Thanks all, Paul |
The answer is : Yes, Yes, and Yes ..... Tip the end of March!
I live in Peru and yes, the rainy season has begun a month early :helpsmilie: Will it end a month early??? Who can say? But you can still do it. I would choose routes thru the Andes as there it only rains 1 or 2 hrs each day. Not so in the jungle as it can rain for days non-stop! Stay away from the really high places as they are miserable this season. If it was snow it would be fine, but it is always freezing rain! Keep to the 6 to 12,000 range and it is actually quite pleasant during the non- raining times.. Stop by and see us in Huanuco, Peru!bier |
Rain Not Bad At All
We are in Ecuador and have been for a month, we have come from 3 months in Colombia.
The weather has been ok to be honest, a few rain days here and there but across the board bloody good. Don't listen to the forecast just look out the window, we have changed plans (cos we don't have any) due to weather but made the most of the new situation but have to say to be fair it is nothing like they are talking to up to be. Best forecast ... if it is not raining it is fine!!:thumbup1: |
We are in Cusco, and 2 weeks ago we had nice weather, but it's raining for at least half the day for the last few days, and only maybe an hours sunshine per day. Gloomy.
but: I would not let it stop you! :-) |
Pissed down here last night in Vilacamba ... in epic proportions, today started nice, we climbed to 3500 meters, got our arses blown off and dumped on by rain ... great day out.
Tis wot it tis :D |
Sun
We have had only sunshine for the last 3 weeks from Quito to Santiago. The two month before that we had 4 days of rain in Columbia

Thanks for the heads up so far, folks. I was spoilt with 3 months of beautiful weather in the Sacred Valley during the winter, and I have only been rained on about 5 times in the last year (literally, and all in Patagonia) so I've gone a bit soft!
My priority is a few weeks of good weather in Colombia - I'm happy to push on through some rain or up the coast a bit in Peru. Charapashanperu - thanks for the invite, you may well be seeing me! I want to pass through Huaraz so may well be coming past your way. |
