What is the besy way?
Hello folks;
What is the best way to do south to north America in terms of motorbike ownership. Do folks ship from Europe, Oz etc etc or buy a bike in Argentina instead and ride up north? Or buy in US/Canada and ship to Argentina and ride north (I guess selling it at the end (if thats your thing) might be easier if it's a Canada or US plate). Are there any sensible exceptions/privileges for Argentinian plate bikes to any neighboring countries, i.e. no need for Carnet or less faff at borders. Or is there any advantages of a US/ Canada plate bike? I'm just trying to work it out my head that's all. Probably another 3-4 years for a trip like this but it's nice to slowly get thinking. Many thanks in advance (Also if this post doesn't really fit in the S. America section a mod may move it to wherever :) ) Oli |
Best way
A foreigner who buys a bike in Argentina cant take the bike out of Argentina.
Selling a bike somewhere that its not registered generally limits your market and lowers the price. But there are always exceptions. Easier to sell in Paraguay. Or a traveller who is not worried about the registration issues may pay a fair price. |
If at all possible, I would reconsider and ride north to south. It's the only way the seasons seem to work out so you get good weather during the wholes tip. Just one of a hundred mistakes I made....

cool thanks for the seasons info. I will do it that way.
I just need to find out whether I can get a bike in the US or Canada as a foreigner on a tourist visa then just ride out with it. Is the bike legally still mine although I am not on the visa anymore? Etc etc... |
