what would happen if...

Hello all, we are having what sounds like the usual problems selling 2 UK registered bikes that are on tempory import papers in Argentina. We have had a lot of interest in them so does anyone know what would happen if we just sold them? When we got to the airport to fly home would it be on the system that we have 2 tempory imported bikes still in Argentina? If they were and we said we left them or sold them as it was to expensive to ship them home, what would happen?

Thanks for the info, has anyone done this before and what might the tax be assuming its a percentage of the book value here? Not on a carnet so dont have to worry about that bit. cheers

if you fly back from an airport, and don't show them your temporary import papers, i don't see how unless the entire countries computers are linked, how they would know you had bikes............:rolleyes2:

I would just sell em, especially if no carnet... and split.

Exiting Argentina without the bike

My bike is stored in Argentina and I have flown back to the United States three times and never been asked about the bikie. They have never known I even have a bike in Argentina when going through immigration during entry or exit at the airport.

Judging by the number of post on this site there must be a ton of bikes left in Argentina. I actually had a Suzuki DR650 given to me! The owner left on a plane without any problems.

mmm

OK thanks for that.
Maybe being a bit to cautious about this and should just do it but why is not everybody doing it if its that easy ?? The site seems full of people trying to do the same thing...or wondering if it is possible.
It has been ´said´ before that it is illegal and we have emailed some law firms that give advise over here to clarify this but no replies so far (could be my terrible spanish (still!!!!)). Surely someone must know someone who KNOWS for definate.
Anyways will let you know how things progress ??!!!
cheers Tim
