Wrapping Up a trip in Rio de Janiero

Well I have been blagging around on this forum long enough while on the road and my time is coming to an end.

I entered Brasil today. I will be in Rio in a week - this has always been the goal and is the culmination of the trip from the point of achieving what I set out to do. Going there has always been non-negotiable and kept me moving when it got ´tough´. Apart from dusting off the budgie smugglers and hitting Copacobana for a day I was hoping for some thoughts on what would be a could way to wrap the trip up. I will still be riding a couple of weeks after this but for me I will have ´finished´.

Any thoughts? Anyone know some good Brasilian riders groups I could contact for a beer and someone to take photos? Can you park a bike near Corcovado for a good photo?

thanks and safe travels wherever you are.

PS, re the above photo, does anyone know why you would call a town ´balls´.

The portuguese is interesting, the word for peninsula is pronounced ´pe-knees´ creating some confusion about what was over to the right of the service station. I´m enjoying going back to basics.

Hi BigJ

Ive just wrapped up my bike trip in Rio last month, Im now living in Rio, currently looking for work.

When will you arrive? It would be good to meet up. Unfortuately I live outside of the city center, so it wouldnt be a great place to stay if you are short on time, but you are welcome to park your bike here. PM me.

Whatever, a great thing to do here is visit a samba school on a Saturday night. My recommendation is Mangueira - starts a 11pm and finishes well into the next morning.

Edit - you can ride your bike up to Corcovado (Cristo Redentor) - go to the helipad for a great view of the statue, visit the statue, then ride around park behind it.

I got here an hour ago!

I rode up Corcovado but got there at 5.30. They wouldn´t let me up. First time the ´I´ve ridden 9 months to get here´ line failed and it was for once real!

A shame really as I had been dawdling near Tijuca and it would have been a cool wrap for the day. Nevertheless job done!

Would love to meet for a beer. I´m at Samba Villa for a couple of days at least. 2232-4607 next to the Arcos de Lapa. Or else use the send email link to send me a phone number and I´ll give you a call.
