British citizen, health care insurance needed in Spain?
Hi Everyone
So after many years of wanting to go on a motorcycle adventure, I’m about to take my bike abroad for the first time, for a mini adventure in northern Spain. I’m a British citizen (living in England) should I take out special health care insurance, or will my European Health Insurance card cover me? Thanks for any advice or tips. |
Most people would take out travel insurance but make sure it covers you for motorcycling, many policies don't. Check out the Post Office as theirs certainly did but policies can change, also see whether you are already covered by a bank account or credit card, a Nationwide Flex account gives free European cover that includes riding a motorcycle.
You will get treatment with a European health card but it will not cover things like repatriation and I have no idea what the Spanish health service is like. Enjoy your trip, the first is often the most memorable. |
Thanks Mark, I've now booked travel insurance through the Post Office.

The EHIC basically pays for the same health cover as the locals get on their NHS/equivalent. This varies around Europe but should certainly cover normal A&E stuff.
