Cambodia etc - Malerone,Malerine, mefloquine (larium)
 

Hello all,

Currently in Cambodia, going to Laos and then to Northern Thailand and taking mefloquine (larium). Have
heard that there is significant resistance to mefloquine in these countries/parts. Should I be looking for another drug?

Also they seem to have some locally available WHO subsidised drug called malerine (not malerone) which they appear to supply as an emergency course to be taken over three days. The emergency course appears to be a mix of mefloquine tablets and some other one I forget.

Is it worth me acquiring this and would it work in an emergency seeing as I'm already on Mefloquine and you are meant to take a different type of drug from the one you are taking if infected?
