daily exercise
I normally do some streetching /yoga plus some basic exercise everyday while travelling and I notice that my stamina stay the same for the month during which I travel , to me it is as important as taking some vitamines while travelling in area where you know the quality of the food will be poor and that the risk of getting some cold ,flu..... , turista will be higher . following basic hygiene I never get sick .

I don't have any daily exerecise routine whether at home or on the road but do make a point of walking around the towns, cities and countryside of the places I visit. Apart from the health benefits of walking you get to see things and meet people that you would miss from the seat of your bike or a taxi. Hiring a bicycle is another way of getting exercise whilst getting a closer look at wherever you are visiting.

I've always been very serious about training and plan on keepin fit while on the road.
There's a lot you can do to keep fit without having access to a gym. Push-ups are an incredible exercice if you are not too advanced. If you are too strong for regular push-ups you can try slow tempo and extra wide hand position. Actually you should vary hands position from time to time as your body adapt to the effort and you have to keep stimulating the muscle in different ways to maintain good results. Also you should do muliple sets to load your muscle. For example you could do 5 sets of 12 repetitions of push-ups, 4 sets of abs, and some leg work like squatting with your heavy bag on your back and some calves with the same bag just going up and down from toes on a step. I know most people wouldn't bother with that but keeping your muscle mass is important to your health and will help you cope with any hardship down the road. I know being fit have always served me well on my trips. I plan to take it a step further on my trip to SA this year and bring olympic rings. These can be found for 60$ and are lightweight (2-3 lbs). You can strap those to a tree and do a wide variety of exercises with your body weight only. |
It's amazing how much just walking around does for you. On my 12 weeks camping around Europe eating all sorts and washing it down with beer I still managed to loose weight and feel much more healthy than when I started.
Of course a morning exercise program would have added even more benefits. |
Also agree with you on the multi vitamins. In fact most multivitamins are to be taken something like three times a day to have a complete daily intake. A good trick is to carry some at all time and take a dose everytime you have a poor meal. A poor meal is usually a meal poor in vegetables or fruits.
Once again most people eat bad here and don't bother with this. They will eat bad on the road and won't bother again. I know I like to feel healthy when I'm here and will want the same feeling while on the road. Being sick at home suck. Being sick on the road triple suck !! |
My basic exercise schedule would go something like this:
Faceplant. 25 Reps/day Squat lift 250 kg bike 25 Reps/day Yard on bent pannier rack/engine bars 10 reps/day Unfortunately I also did Random food, mainly fat and meat 3 reps day Bottle vodka 1 rep/day So ended up a bit flabby despite all the heaving and sweating. I think the vibration also had a detrimental effect in terms of wobbling up my man boobs - is this a common biking problem? |

I understand that while on the road it maybe tempting to do not exercise but some good streching and some basic gym keep you in shape and in my case while riding off road for weeks I notice better undurance than my friends or faster healing if or when you go down .

you will also fall more graciously if you are fit. By graciously I mean you won't hurt yourself as much. Your muscle holds the rest of the mass. If there's too much mass and not enough muscle you will flop around like a rag doll.

It's good to do yoga when you are travelling.Because while seating you can do different forms of yoga like pranayam and many more.

exercise
yoga is actually really good as we ride all day and sleep in some uncomfortable places , the body needs a lot of stretching and adjustment. plus the fact is we are not that actif when riding even if does seems like it.
