For me it's
malarone for the malaria. It doesn't suit some people and expensive but it fares ok with me. Dia-oralite for dehydration .........other than the usual, over the counter headache and stomach pills etc, I'd leave the rest of the drugs alone unless you know and/or qualified to deal with them and if so you wouldn't be asking but knowing..! Be safe! |
Malarone in Africa or Asia, Mefloquine in Latin America
CoArtem (Artemisinin/Lumefantrine combo) for treatment of acute malaria Ciprofloxacin for all-purpose use Penicillin for oral or throat infection Metronidazole (Flagyl) for giardia or amoebas Loperamide (Imodium) for symptomatic treatment of the trots Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) or similar if expecting boat trips or local buses Ibuprofen A handful of stronger painkillers--doesn't matter what kind anti-fungus cream antibiotic cream syringes and needles medevac insurance duct tape Don't forget the duct tape. Standard caveat: I have no medical training, but I've traveled a lot, and I've been paying attention most of the time. I've heard some astoundingly stupid things said about medications, even by otherwise-intelligent people. Anyone planning to self-diagnose and treat using the above stuff had best research well and be prepared to suffer the consequences in the event of mistakes. Of course, mistakes happen frequently when you rely on medical professionals, too. Mark |
