Insurance for My Bike and Me w/Central American Travel!
Hello, all!
Traveling from Oakland, California to Turrialba, Costa Rica on a CB500X during the month of October. I will be volunteering for 6+ months upon arrival and plan to travel Central and South America within those months on the bike as well...how do adventure riders go about getting insurance for their bikes and themselves on a trip like this?? Haven't had much luck with American companies thus far and feeling a bit stuck...:helpsmilie: Thanks!! |
You should be able to get insurance for your bike as you enter each country, it will be basic cover but will make you legal while there. As for travel as in medical insurance this seems to be more difficult for Americans, there is a thread here from a couple of years ago but before taking out any cover get it in writing that it covers you for motorcycle travel and volunteering.
The other thing to be aware of is the length of the temporary importation permit for your bike if you plan to stay in one country for several months, overstay that and it can have serious consequences including vehicle confiscation. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...e-travel-74621 |
