liability insurance
I've searched the HUBB but can't find the answer to this question. (Sorry if I missed it.) My husband and I live in Oregon and are going to travel for 2 years in Canada, US, Mexico, Central & South America. We're going through World Nomads for medical insurance. I understand we can't insure our bikes.
Question: If an accident is our fault, I'd like to learn more about liability insurance to cover the other person and/or the person's vehicle south of the US. Thanks! Jalene South on a Bike |

As a US citizen, liability insurance provides this coverage in the US and Canada. For Mexico, you have to purchase a separate policy. Search Mexico Motorcycle Insurance and you'll get a number of contacts. I get liability only, not theft, when I travel in Mexico. I was in Guatemala and Belize last spring. I was unable to locate insurance in Guatemala, except for one for aroud $200 for 5 days. I took my chances and had cash in my wallet, but you choose. Belize, you buy it at the border. It's not uncommon as I understand in CA and SA to purchase mandated insurance right at the border. There is a lot of variation how it is done as going south, from my understanding. Search around on this site in the South America section, and also on Advenuure Rider. I know this information is out there. |
