Malaria situation in Mauritania and Senegal

First, I hope you all had a great Christmas Eve.

Well, I'm departing this week for a trip in Africa, through Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal, and back.
Both me and my GF went to a traveler's medical appointment, but with different doctors. We both got the usual typhoid and yellow fever shots, but my doctor was very concerned with malaria in Mauritania and Senegal, prescribing me €80 worth of Malarone tablets. My GF's doctor on the other hand was very relaxed and simply recommended mosquito repellent for the whole trip.

Any opinions on this? I'm a little confused.

I just spent a bit of time in that area on the way up from South Africa. You want need malaria tabs for there....Your doc is a little paranoid !!!:innocent:
