What are the MOST essential safety tips to follow while traveling??

One I feel is safe drinking water .

Can you NAME the most VITAL one according to you?? :helpsmilie:

If you're not 100% healthy,take medicine with you,and if you are,take some form of sugar...it could be helpfull.

I'm currently planning my first overland travel trip and the advice I read over and over again is don't drive at night.

Interesting thread. Mine would be keep warm, hydrated and well fed. These three factors effect how the mind works. Its a catch 22 aswell as when your stressed about getting to a border the last thing you want to do is stop and eat, but the lack of sugar in your blood will only make you more weak.

As regards safe water there are a few steps you can follow when in doubt. When taking water from a 'cleanish' stream (the ones you might find in the Scottish Highlands and not central manchester!) walk 100m upstream and make sure there isnt and dead animals/waste up there. Boil and leave to simmer three minutes, maybe even filter it through char that you get from a campfire. You can also use plastic bags to trap moisture from tree branches and metal surfaces to collect dew as it forms in the night.

If in town buy a bottle from a well known brand, or use clorine or iodine.
I feel like a know it all a**e now.

When my daughter went to India for 3 months of back packing, I advised her to get glasses as a backup for her contact lenses. She said she was very glad of them..

If you are not 100 % healthy, i suggest you take care your self some rest, take medicine & then drive. I think it could be helpful to you...!!!!

I always take bottled water with me and make sure I have some medicine in case I eat something not too fresh. And I always have a hat in my backpack just in case :) and sunglasses. I might also take a suntan lotion Stellenmarkt
and a spray against mosquitoes jobs.

Perhaps it's just taking your time.
