I'm going from Portland to Tierra Del Fuego in January and I was looking at addional insurance. Something to basicly get me home if I have an accident. When you buy a Spot they offer a service for like $17 and Global Rescue is $325 or so. I haven't researched this much yet and first would like to know what you have used. Thanks

the insurance market is very competetive and margins are tight so here isnt much room for manouvre, so if there is a big disparity in price there will be a reason. check the terms and conditions carefully and check what is included and what isn't. there's no such thing as a free lunch, although there is such a thing as a rip off!!

we have World Nomads plus the rescue service offered by Delorme (similar to the Spot one

I went with Emergency Assistance Plus. You can qualify for reduced rates by being a member of certain originations. It cost $129 for the family plan.

I plan on getting the $17 plan from Spot also.
