Travel Soap
 

Not sure if any use to anyone, as a soldier any form of deployment or training exercise usually involves getting fairly grubby (ok mingly dirty) and normally covered in cuts and scratches.

Someone in the dim and distant past reccomended carrying a small travel toiletries bottle, (mine came from bodyshop but any will do) filled up with antiseptic hand soap. A tiny amount used as shower gell/soap every couple of days helps prevent the numerous small cuts and scrathes getting infected and hopefully maintains a healthy rather than explosive digestive system.

A small bottle 2inchs high by an inch or so diameter seems to last for ages.

You can even buy multi-purpose travel soap in Blacks called Life Venture All Purpose Soap. It's a fiver for 100ml which lasts for ages & I actually prefer it to my regular shower gel.

It will wash clothes, hair, and even vegetables/fruit etc as well. Comes in a strong plastic bottle with a screw-on lid & I've never had it leak or accidentally open (unlike the great Nescafe disaster of my last camping trip when a whole jar of coffee tipped over EVERYTHING in my topbox!)

Also: Try the shampoo from "Lush". Looks like a round piece of soap and lasts absolutely ages for a daily hairwash.

I use 'savon d'alep' after eavesdropping on a conversation in hospital whilst getting some booster jabs. They were saying it 'deters' mossies, when I found it I also discovered it is excellent as a shampoo too. As a girlie I don't usually use bars of soap on my head but this works a treat. One 'block' of it lasts forever ... and I've never looked back!

I'd recommend Hibiscrub for this purpose. It's a commercial-grade, anti-bacterial hand wash and supposedly kills MRSA, HIV, etc, etc. I suppose you could use it for shower gel but it stinks. It comes in 1/2 litre bottles so ask someone who works in a hospital, nursing home, etc, to fill a small medicine bottle for you. They obviously don't use it enough so they should have plenty spare.

I used to do a lot of hiking and camping when I was at school (years ago, Duke of Edinburgh Award). We had this mad, ex-army bloke as an instructor who told us that Woolworths own brand washing up liquid was what the RSPB used to clean seagulls caught in oil slicks. His logic said it was therefore good enough for us to use as shower gel!
