advice for traveling from spain- senegal
Hi,
A friend and I were looking at doing a motorbike trip from spain through morocco, western sahara, maruitania and finally to senegal. We were looking for some advice Are any of these countries as dangerous as the foiergn office makes out? What are the roads like? Are visas/paperwork difficult to come by? Many thanks for any advice |
one advise comes into my mind,
avoid Rosso border (between Mauretania and Senegal) best would be to go from Mauretania into Mali and than to Senegal, sorry I know it is a long detour. or go to the other border crossing, follow the damm for 100km to the west ... see more about this in other posts on the HUBB and take your time mika |
FCO have their own reasons for being alarmist - check out other european countries and you'll find bandits all over france and italy ;-)
Just don't pick a fight in Rosso and don't get tricked into buying weed in Morocco and its all pretty straight forward. Of those countries, Brits only need a visa for Mauretania, but I think you still have to get it before the border. |
cheers for your advice guys
what is the general quality of the roads? |
Mauri visa available at the border (20 Euro)
Except for abot 5 kms at the W/Sahara-Mauri border roads are excellent. The 100 k to Daima Dam is dirt track but reasonably flat and no problem. |

If you want, drop me an email as I intend to do this trip in July/Aug. I'll also give you contact info for another HUBBER who's doing the same trip. I was in Morocco in 2004, down to Ourzazate and southern Atlas. Good roads! |
