Yeti, road conditions is another thread altogether. Best to ask specifically in each regional section, but in sub-Saharan Africa for example would depend on the season in many places. Have a look at Tracks4Africa.
ORC, I suspect the octane is the same in Mali (and Niger) as it is in Burkina as all those countries are in thrall of Total's near-European prices. Interesting to hear that UNL is all phased out in Africa of all places. I had a long 'r u sure' debate with the bloke who found that info on XT Forum. There is hope for us all. Thanks for the links and all the rest for chipping in too. Bernd S - very nicely formatted! For recent prices on the areas I know (Sahara and North Africa), go to the map here and click a country. Nigeria: Petrol (official 65NGN - not available) 100Naira out of bottle/canister, quality mostly good, check if they are serving local bikes out of the same canister, than most likely no water added. Diesel: around 150/200NGN now, scarse at filling stations

Nigerian Fuel Prices - double as of January 2012
The days of cheap fuel in Nigeria are coming to a close.
Old price was 65NGN (subsidized), new price now ~130NGN (left before new prices implemented). 1 USD = 162 NGN. Prices are now closer to that of the neighboring countries, but still quite a hardship for the general population. |
Prices from memory having been there 2 weeks ago
Cameroon +/- 695CFA Gabon +/- 645CFA Central areas, we did not go to Libreville 650CFA = 1 Euro |
