Angola transit visa. Possible in the border with Namibia?
Hi, I know that is very popular to issue the visa of Angola in Abuja, actually right now I am in Abuja.
The problem is that the f?.,#$=*... embassy did not give me the visa cause I do not have already the visa for Sudafrica (I am from Mexico... I need a visa even for the restrooms). Is ridiculous, I know, cause Angola does not have border with Southafrica, but... C'est l'Afrique So, I do not have more time to spend in Nigeria, that is why I will issue the southafrican visa in Namibia or in Botswana, and the question is if IS POSSIBLE TO ISSUE THE TRANSIT ANGOLA VISA IN THE NAMIBIAN BORDER (MATADI) OR IN BRAZZAVILLE OR KINSHASA? Thanks in advance. |
Hi Ivan,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. You can try to pick up an Angolan visa in Kinshasa and again in Matadi. From what I heard from travellers last year coming south, both can be a bit hit and miss. Some friends tried in Kinshasa, were told it would take at least a week and then they moved onto Matadi where they waited a few days until they finally got it. As you mention, Abuja is usually the most reliable. The one concern I would have would be that they will ask you for the SA visa again in Kishasa and Matadi. I haven't heard of that scenario before so you may want to try to get a Namibian visa or SA visa somewhere between Nigeria and the DRC to prevent getting stuck again. Ride safe. |
Likewise, sorry.
Last year a friend from Lithuania also came down the west coast. He needed a visa for Namibia and SA, but they gave him a Angolan visa without either of them. But SA would not give him a visa in Windhoek - they said he must get it in his home country. So be warned about that. Hopefully you have better luck.... He got into Namibia by luck, they didn't figure out that he needed a visa in advance and stamped him in for 90 days... |
Hey Roamingyak,
I think I may have met your Lithuanian friend in Namibia. He was riding a smaller KLR (250?) and leather riding suit and his bike and gear were looking well worn by that point. He was riding back to Windhoek to try for his visa after having been turned back from the SA border. I swapped a couple of emails with him afterwards, but never found out if he continued his ride or ended up flying back to Europe. Hope he made it. |
To get the visa for Angola was a nightmare even at the embassy:

Yip, that is Tango: Brief summary, sold bike in Walvis Bay, 4 yachts to French Guyana, put in prison in St Helena for having no money or onwards ticket. Hitchhiked down to Argentina, but walked most of the way, nobody gives rides in SA, sold camera to buy a bike...... still rocking! ;-)
