border crossing between Mauritania and Mali
 

Hello,

I will shortly be cycling from Morocco to Mali and would like to find out someone's opinion on the best place to cross the border, by bicycle, between Mauritania and Mali: south of Ayoun el Atrous or Nema (or elsewhere)?

Is it possible/ straightforward to buy a Malian visa at the border? What's its price and duration?

south of ayoun el atrous is the place to go with your bycicle. all tarmac.
price of visa is 15000 cfa or 25euro at the border. you can arrange the visa at the border in ten minutes.

ayoun-nioro is as far i know the only tarmac connection between mauritanie and mali.
i was there this summer so the information will be fine.
