Border-Crossing Options Egypt into Sudan
 

Hi there,

does anyone has experience with crossing the border from Egypt into Sudan at Bir Shalatein (near Red Sea) instead of going via Wadi Halfa ? We are looking for this option to avoid the ferry that take you from the Egyptiona side to Wadi Halfa. We plan to be in Sudan early May 2010 (two motor bikes).

Hi there

As far as I know this is a no go. It's a military zone and they wont even let you get near the border. There will be a military checkpoint long before the border and you wont be able to get past that one. If it would possible, people wouldn't go through the hassle to take the ferry Assuan - Wadi Halfa.

Hi the road is paved on egyptian side and almost ready on sudanese side, but the border is still closed.
