Burkina faso/Niger bike storage wanted

Hi, I will ride from Dakar to Niamey or Ouagadougou in one week. I´d like to know if in those cities there is a safe place to keep the bike for a while. Thanks.

Hi Miquel, good to see that you are still going strong. Hope you find a safe place for "little fat".

Hi, Jerome, nice to read from you. I am in Mali right now.

Little Fat is at home, I came here on a crappy second hand BMW which is always giving me big headaches. Now, one caburator membrane is gone and no spare around here.

Fortunately, I've found a German guy in Segu. Albert runs a good hotel for routiers and he is going to keep the bike safe till I can come back in winter (too much hot in summer).

His place is called is Hotel Djoliba and it very easy to find. Everybody knows him. He is a good mechanic and also a biker himself.

My business partner lives in Niamey but he's visiting Europe right now so I can't get him to help.

Most houses in Niamey have large mud walls surrounding their yards and seemed to be pretty safe when I was there 3 years ago. The hotels had similar.

Hi,

neither Burkina nor Niger but a good place in Bamako is:

Kaira-So

N 12° 36’ 8’’
W 07 56’ 8’’

A bit out of town at the route to Segou about 2 km after the tour de l’Afrique roundabout. Left between two mini stations into a dirt road.

Run by Franco Malian Jean-Bakir Bertet and his Irish French wife you feel more treated like a guest than a customer. Campsites in their bush / park like huge garden for 3500 CFA per person.

They offer also long term parking (30Euro per month for a 4x4).

They have a driver who used to be mechanic and was very helpful searching spare parts. Jean-Bakirs uncle runs a garage so here is the perfect spot for overlanders.

A good place in Quaga is waht a lot of peopla are looking for, so feedback is wellcome.

Bernd

Thanks, mates. Useful info. See you somewhere someday.

I am in Bamako and bike in Segu. Tomorrow flying back home. Now I am a pedestrian. Tomorrow late I´ll be riding again.

From my cheap hotel room near the airport I ve seen two bikers passing with panniers and all the travel stuff. I felt happy for them, they keep on going. I am stuck on a dirty african room, but they are still riding for me.

Good luck to them. Good luck to all of us.
