Buying motorbike in Uganda - then to SA & UK
Hi,
I am an Australian currently in Uganda, looking to buy a bike to ride down to Sth Africa, then to London over the next 11 months. I'm currently looking at a 2003 Africa Twin and a 1986 XL600RMG, but happy to look at anything else if it's out there. I would love some advice/recommendations on: 1. a local Ugandan agent/helper to assist with ownership/rego transfer (I need to get the rego in my name in order to get a Carnet); 2. getting a Carnet from the Ugandan Automobile Association; 3. a local mechanic familiar with Honda motorcycles; 4. the wisdom (or not) of attempting the above trip on a 30 year old Honda XL600RMG!; 5. anything else relevant! Cheers Stuart Modify message |
Hi Stuart
I used a guy called Moses Aldan in Kampala to service my yamaha. Runs a small garage, lots of work for the NGOs and has a bike mechanic (Ramos). His cell is +256 772 503 233 My blog entry covering this is here: https://temporaryescapee.wordpress.c...52-54-kampala/ Good luck. Cheers Andy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ps not sure when you are hitting RSA but i'm there myself in December (8/12 - 15/12) doing some outback riding in the Western Cape if the dates work and you fancy riding a few of the dirt road classics.

Uganda
Hi ,
I have lived in Uganda (Kampala) for the past 10 yrs and it is all that the others have stated... I recommend it as a stand alone trip (3 weeks) or a vital part of the N-S trip. My email is ianineurope@btinternet.com and I will help any lonely, stranded or sober bikers with their problems. Good contacts at repair centre for bikes and great social. Also know the local bike sellers and can help avoid the idiots if you are looking to buy here. I also have good experience of all countries south of here. If you are passing through drop me a line - cold beer guaranteed. Parky |
