Changing money in West Africa
In January, I'll be going to catch the last 5 or 6 stages of the Dakar Rally. I'll be flying in to Gambia with a friend and traveling through Burkino-Faso, Mauritania, Senegal, and Mali in his four-wheel drive (no bike this time).
The question is: what is the best way to change my US $'s into local currency? Banks? Currency exchanges? The guy standing around the airport? Is it better to change to Euros before I get there? Are CFAs acceptable, even in the countries that don't use them? Thanks. Ira Agins Santa Fe, New Mexico USA |
Use Euros instead of US dollars, they can be easily changed at any bank.

Your ATM gives you the best exchange rate.
