When crossing into Tanzania from Malawi on my way to Mbeya , I purchased Comesa cover from the so called insurance office at the border. I was approached on the Malawi side by two well dressed guys , who followed me across offering their services. I tried to find other service providers even asking at immigration and customs , I was told that the guys who had approached me were the Comesa agents as such. I purchased the cover , only later to be told in Uganda that the certificate I had bought was no longer valid that comesa had changed the document in December 2013 . The flag apparently must have a wave look not a straight rectangle as the one I had been sold . From what I gather these guys have obtained the old certificates and are selling them to overlanders , with the cover being null and void , so if a claim arose it would be repudiated . Please try and get the cover in place from a legitimate insurance company in a city if possible .A further discovery as of a few hours ago South African reg vehicles do not qualify for Comesa cover , you have to purchase the cover in each country you cross.

Ah yes, those guys.....

We negotiated hard with them for Tanzanian insurance for the truck - and drove them down by 50%....even so, when we went to get a top-up in Arusha we found that it should have been 50% less again!
They are a sole-source and they know it!
