Congo (Zaire or Brazzaville) Open?
During my recent trip to West Africa, I heard a few reports that at least some travellers (one bicycle, one 4WD) had made it through Congo (don't know which one), despite the ongoing wars. I'd appreciate any information on the feasibility of heading through either of them. In case you hadn't guessed, I'm trying to get from North to South.
Thanks in advance |

Did you make it? We are hoping to do the same in November of 2002

I'm not leaving until November 2002 - so any info posted here would be useful. Someone writing in a recent Horizons newsletter made it though.

Hi all,
Just wondered if there is any news on the viability of travel through DRC? We did this in mid 1995, on our SA - UK trip, and it was a fabulous place to travel through, albeit very hard work. By far our favourite part of the journey. We are panning our next trip (south this time), commencing April 2003, and we would like to go through DRC in about June. Last time, our experience was that we got mainly negative advice up front, until we were near to the country, at which point we started actually meeting people who had just travelled through, or who in turn had encountered *other* travellers who had. Does anyone have any current information, first- or second-hand? Also looking for information on travelling through Angola... Regards, Michael... |
Anything is possible, if you ask me, just depends on what you are willing to put in to achieve it.
Check out Steven's website, he recently went Cameroun, BRazzaville, Kinshasa, Luanda (flew this stretch) and then down to Namibia. Interesting and well presented site with lots of info and nice photos. HeD |
