Coordinates for N. Namibia & gas in Windhoek?
Hi
Do anybody know a website with coordinates to all "important" places in Kaokoveld? Like the red & blue drums, the Van Zyl´s pass, water holes and so on? Thanks... I also wonder where I can find canisters Primus gas in Windhoek? I will arrive in Windhoek later this week and then I will continue north to Kunene River where I will start my bicycle trip. If there are any travellers here who gonna go north soon and want to share the costs of petrol & food - please let me know! But I have to bring my bicycle... ;-) Cheers! |
Suggest you look at T4A paper maps and also their GPS mapping. They also produce a very good book on travelling in Namibia. you could also look at Johann Snyman's Book of travels in Kaokoland etc. All are available in 4x4 stores in Windhoek eg Cymot.

Thanks! I should def go and check that shop out!
No website with waypoints, fast & quick? My plane leaves in 12 hours and I have to sleep a little too.. I might search the web myself, but then I have to wait untill I arrive in Windhoek... :-) where do all the overlanders in windhoek stay nowayds? Back in 2007 it was the Cardborad Box - is that still the place? |
Log in to T4A on the web.

It's still popular with overlanders. ;) Some people stay in urban camp instead but it's further from the city centre. For the gas cartridges you could check out Bushwackers or Cymot. Both not too far from the backpackers by bicycle. Cheers Fabian |
We passes cardboard box 2 weeks ago and it's not a nice place for overlanders, although not with your car.
If you are with the bike and take a dorm it might be fine. You rather take Cameleon backpackers, but you've to book upfront as it's mostly full. We stayed at Arebush Travel Lodge S22°36 691 E17° 05 171 It's just out of town, but nice. Enjoy your travels! Eef and Dries ps: we started up a facebookpage for overlanders in Africa, check it out! https://www.facebook.com/groups/3121...15524/?fref=ts |
Thanks.
I found gas at Cymot - not primus though, so now I have a campinggas burner aswell... :-) Staying in cardbord box and its not really the same place as it was, but it starts to get off season now... when I was here in 2007 I met over a dozen trans-africa overlanders, now.... none. Btw: I leaving Windhoek tomorrow and if somebody heading north and want a paying passenger, let me now! |
Lostcyclist,
If you are at Kunene River Lodge please say hello to the managers ( a nice couple who hosted me back in May ) from Yves, the French cyclist who stopped over for a night. I am now in Franceville, Gabon, and all is going well. Best of luck for your Kaokoveld adventure ! Cheers, L. |
