Crossing from West Africa to East Africa

Hi all

A friend of mine is interested in crossing by car from west to East africa.
1. Mali-Niger-Chad to sudan or Congo to Uganda or Rwanda

Anyone has any updated information?

Been discussed recently - Chad/Sudan anyway. Have a search.

(Short answer = No 99% = problem is Sudan permissions.)

Please contribute to the other posts rather than starting a new one if possible - make it easier when people like yourself come long if we all keep things in a few relevant threads rather than 25 separate one (not having a go, just politely asking!).

BTW loved Mali in fact we think it is the best of West Africa.

We are off towards India in the next few months. But also in this region many issues. Tibet is still a issue, (visa's for individual overlanders)

South Sudan is not a war zone! It is much more peaceful and easygoing than CAR. You can get food and fuel, accomodation in towns. Generally there is no harassment at checkpopints and you don't have to pay any bribes (ok, maybe to traffic police:). Visas could be a problem that days, but I know that it is easy to obtain in Kampala.
You can enter the country from Uganda via Nimule, Moyo, Kaya, from Kenya through Nadapal. There is also border crossing to CAR, Kongo DR, and possibly to Ethiopia in the dry season. Borders with the North Sudan are not officially open.
